Tags

Tags are free-form labels you can add to pets and pet owners to organise, categorise, and quickly identify records in your business. Unlike pet attributes (which are structured, colour-coded care indicators), tags are simple text labels you create yourself for any purpose.

Tags vs Attributes: Attributes are structured, colour-coded pet information. Petboost provides a shared care library, and your business can create custom attributes with its own colour and icon. Tags remain lightweight free-form labels for pets and owners, such as "VIP", "daycare regular" or "referred by Sarah".

How Tags Work

  • Tags are free-form text - type anything you like

  • Tags are normalised to lowercase automatically (e.g. "VIP" becomes "vip")

  • Tags are shared across your business - when you create a tag on one pet, it appears as a suggestion for other pets and owners

  • You can add up to 20 tags per pet or per owner

  • Each tag can be up to 50 characters long

  • Tags can be added with a comma shortcut - type a tag name followed by a comma to add it instantly

Where Tags Appear

Tags are available in four locations:

1. Pet Profile - Left Sidebar

On the pet profile page, the left sidebar shows a Pet Tags section under the pet's details. This is the primary place to manage tags for a pet.

2. Pet Profile - Petprint Tab

The Petprint tab (the pet's identity dashboard) also includes a Pet Tags section within the Petprint ID card. This provides the same add/remove functionality as the sidebar.

3. Pet Profile - Pet & Owner Details Tab

The Pet & Owner Details tab includes an Owner Tags section. Owner tags apply to the pet owner rather than an individual pet, so they're shared across all of that owner's pets.

4. Appointment View - Customer Details Panel

When viewing an appointment, the customer details panel on the left shows both pet tags and owner tags for quick reference. You can add and remove tags directly from this view.

Adding Tags

  1. Click the tag input area (it shows a search icon and placeholder text like "Tag Bella..." or "Tag Sarah...")

  2. Start typing - existing tags from your business will appear as suggestions

  3. Select a suggestion to add it, or keep typing to create a new tag

  4. To create a new tag, type the full name and select the Create "your tag" option that appears

  5. You can also type a tag name followed by a comma to add it instantly without selecting from the dropdown

Removing Tags

Click the X button on any tag chip to remove it. The tag is removed from that pet or owner immediately.

Tag Suggestions

When you open the tag input, Petboost shows suggestions based on tags already used across your business. This keeps your tagging consistent - if you've tagged one pet as "daycare regular", the same tag will be suggested when tagging other pets or owners.

Suggestions update as you type, filtering to match your search query.
