Overview
Communications Booster is an optional add-on that gives your business a dedicated Australian mobile number and a full 2-way SMS inbox. Instead of sending one-way notifications, you can have real conversations with your customers directly from Petboost.
Available as an add-on for Business Pro, Flex and Max plans
Features
Dedicated Australian Mobile Number
When you activate Communications Booster, you verify your business and then receive a dedicated +61 mobile number. Customers can save this number and text you directly. The number is not assigned at the moment you activate - it goes live after verification is approved.
2-Way SMS Inbox
Send and receive SMS messages in a threaded conversation view, similar to a messaging app. Each pet owner has their own conversation thread.
Threaded Conversations
All messages with a customer (both manual and automated) appear in a single, chronological thread. This gives you full context without switching between screens.
Delivery Tracking
See delivery status for every outbound message: sent, delivered, or failed.
How to activate Communications Booster
Go to Settings, then SMS.
Select Get Started with Communications Booster.
After you activate, complete the verification form. You need your legal business name, ABN, street address, and one registration document.
If your entity is a company, upload an ASIC company extract from ASIC Connect. Otherwise print your ABN Lookup record to PDF from ABN Lookup. Upload the document as a PDF, JPEG or PNG up to 5MB. The document must be dated within 12 months, must not use a PO box, and the legal name and address must match the form character for character.
Submit the form. Reviews are usually approved within 1-3 business days. The dedicated number activates automatically after approval. Petboost emails the notification address shown on the form when the review is decided.
When the number is live, Messages appears in the navigation.
If you skip verification after activating, open Settings, then SMS, and finish the form later.
Fill the verification form
The form heading is Verify your business to get your number on a first submit, Verification needs attention on a re-submit, or Request your dedicated number when verification is already approved.
Open Settings, then SMS
Select Get Started with Communications Booster, or later tap Get your number on the dedicated number card
Under Business Details, enter Legal Business Name
Enter ABN / ACN
Enter Street Address
Optional: enter Address Line 2 (optional)
Enter City / Suburb, Postcode, and State. Country is Australia and is locked
Under Business Registration Document, tap Choose document and upload one PDF, JPEG or PNG up to 5MB. After a file is attached, the button reads Replace document
Tick the box that you verify the information matches your official business records
Tick I acknowledge and agree
Select Submit for Verification. If verification was already approved, the button reads Request Number. If the last review was rejected, the button reads Re-submit Verification
Petboost emails the business email on your profile when the review is decided, or when the number is ready on a Request Number submit.
Super Admin only: the dedicated number card also has Super Admin: Manual Assignment with Phone Number (E.164) and Assign Number.
Get your number after activation
If Communications Booster is on and you do not have a number yet:
Open Settings, then SMS
Find Your Dedicated Number or Dedicated SMS Number
Select Get your number
Complete the form and select Submit for Verification or Request Number
If verification was not approved, the card shows Verification needs attention. Select Re-submit Verification, fix the fields so they match your document, and submit again.
Using Messages
The Messages page lists every SMS conversation on your dedicated number, with the most recent activity first.
Find a conversation
Use the search field to find a pet owner by name or phone number.
Use the filter tabs to narrow the list:
All shows conversations that are not archived
Unread shows conversations with unread messages
Unanswered shows conversations where the last message is from the pet owner
Starred shows conversations you have starred
Archived shows conversations you have archived
Star, archive, or mark a conversation unread
On a conversation in the list, use the star to add it to Starred. Open the overflow menu to Mark as unread or Archive.
If the conversation is open, the header has the same star. Open the overflow menu for Mark as unread and Archive.
Archiving a conversation removes it from All. Open Archived to find it, then choose Unarchive.
Marking a conversation unread keeps it in Unread until you open it again.
Send a message
Select a conversation and type in the compose field. Press Enter or tap the send icon in the compose field. That button has no text label.
To start a conversation with a pet owner who does not have a thread yet, use New and search for them.
Read a thread
Each thread shows the full conversation history with timestamps and delivery status:
Messages you send appear on one side
Messages from the pet owner appear on the other
Automated messages (reminders, payment alerts) are labelled
To hide automated messages in the open conversation, turn on Hide automated. When they are hidden, the same control reads Show automated.
If older messages exist, tap Load earlier messages.
The conversation header star is Star conversation.
Draft a reply with Grazi
If a conversation is open and the compose field is showing, Draft with Grazi sits next to it. It opens Grazi with the recent thread and drafts a reply for you to review. Grazi only drafts when you select the button. It does not write replies when a message arrives.
Open the conversation.
Select Draft with Grazi. If you already typed a reply, the button reads Improve with Grazi.
Review the draft in the Grazi panel.
If that conversation is still open, select Insert to put the draft in the compose field. You can also copy it yourself.
Edit the text if you need to, then send it.
Automated messages (reminders and payment alerts) are left out of the draft context. Sending the SMS still uses your credits.
Automated Messages in Threads
When Petboost sends automated SMS to a customer (appointment reminders, payment alerts, confirmation requests), those messages appear in the same conversation thread alongside your manual messages. This means:
You always have full context of what the customer has received
Customer replies to automated messages appear in the thread
Your team can follow up on automated messages naturally
Dedicated number management
Your dedicated number is requested after you submit business verification. Australian telecommunications rules require this before a mobile number can be issued.
Verification and number status
The Communications Booster card on Settings, then SMS, shows where you are:
Your business is being verified - the application is in review. Reviews are usually approved within 1-3 business days.
Your number is being set up - verification is approved and Petboost is issuing the number. This usually takes under 30 minutes.
Verification needs attention - the application was not approved. The card shows the reason. Update the details so they match your document, then select Re-submit Verification.
Number setup failed - the number request did not complete. Select Try again if it is shown, or contact support.
When the number is live, the card shows the number with a copy button. The number can send and receive messages.
If verification is already approved and you reactivate Communications Booster, you can request a number again from the same card without uploading another document.
Number release on deactivation
If you deactivate Communications Booster, Petboost releases the dedicated number. You cannot send or receive messages on that number after that. If you reactivate later, you may receive a different number.
Key Rules
Existing customers only: you can only message pet owners who are already in your Petboost customer database. Communications Booster is not for cold outreach.
Inbound messages are free: when a customer texts your dedicated number, it does not cost you any credits.
Outbound messages use credits: each message you send (manual or automated via the dedicated number) uses one SMS credit from your balance.
Credit pooling: credits from your monthly plan allocation and any purchased packs are pooled together.
Deactivation
To deactivate Communications Booster:
Go to Settings, then SMS.
Open Manage on the Communications Booster card.
Select Deactivate Communications Booster.
Confirm the deactivation.
Petboost releases the dedicated number. Existing conversation history stays on the account.
Troubleshooting
Verification is taking longer than expected
Reviews are usually approved within 1-3 business days. If the card still says Your business is being verified after that:
Confirm the legal name and address match the document character for character
Confirm the ABN is active
Confirm the document is dated within 12 months and is not a PO box address
Verification needs attention
The card shows the rejection reason. Fix the mismatch, then submit the form again from Settings, then SMS.
Messages not being delivered
Verify the recipient's phone number is a valid Australian mobile number
Check your SMS credit balance (outbound messages require credits)
Ensure the recipient has not blocked your number on their device
Review delivery status indicators in the conversation thread
