Understanding Your Fees

Three Distinct Fee Buckets

Petboost has three separate fees that can apply to card transactions. Each serves a different purpose and is paid to a different party. Your specific rates depend on your plan and account configuration.

1. Stripe Processing Fee

Paid to Stripe, not Petboost. This is the standard Australian card processing rate charged by Stripe for every online card payment. Stripe also charges a processing fee on card reader (in-person) payments.

2. Petboost Booking Fee

Petboost's transaction fee on card payments processed through Stripe Connect. The rate varies by plan. This fee also applies to Stripe Terminal (in-person card reader) transactions.

Calendar Lite does not include payment processing, so this fee does not apply.

3. Card surcharge

From 1 October 2026, card surcharging is banned in Australia on eftpos, Visa and Mastercard debit, prepaid and credit cards. Pass Stripe fee to customer and Pass platform fee to customer on Settings > Pricing & Payments add the fees to invoices paid by card, as Card Processing Fee and Booking Fee lines. See Build fees into your prices.

Subscription Waiver

Process enough card payments each month and your subscription fee for the following month is waived. The booking fee still applies. Your waiver threshold depends on your plan -- check Settings > Billing to see your threshold and current progress.

External payments (cash, bank transfer, payments not processed through Petboost) do not count toward the waiver threshold.

Launch Period

New subscribers get a launch period with reduced fees when they complete Stripe Connect setup. Check your subscription details in Settings > Billing to see if your launch period is active.

Stripe Terminal (In-Person Card Reader)

Petboost supports Stripe card readers for in-person card payments. New readers are the Stripe Reader S700, and a WisePOS E you already own keeps working with Petboost. Card reader payments carry Stripe's in-person processing fee and the same Petboost booking fee as online card payments.

Existing bank EFTPOS terminals cannot be connected to Petboost. Businesses can continue using their own terminal for walk-in payments alongside Petboost.
